Tucked beside a heritage sandstone bungalow in Lower Mitcham, this side addition is carefully set to frame and integrate with the surrounding landscape. The material palette responds to the corner allotment while engaging with the streetscape. Bricks are turned on their heads—quite literally—mirroring the visitor experience as they enter. From the moment one steps through the arched steel door onto the semicircular concrete threshold, playful curves define the space.
Exposed timber beams follow the ceiling rake, and cabinetry is dotted with a variety of playful curved trims and sculptural pulls, introducing subtle whimsy to the joinery.
