An addition to a 1920’s bungalow, the new built form has been defined in black steel and brick. Never seeking to blend or compete, the black contrasts in both form and colour against the existing, white-painted brick and render. A mature, shady Willow Myrtle tree was retained and helped inform a design response that saw the new floorplate hold tight to the existing structure; extending laterally across the site rather than stretching towards the rear.

The addition stands bold in black. Its structured lines bring a sense of formality whilst the contrasting interior palette adds softness and warmth. The result — a home that is both a canvas for artwork, and more importantly, a canvas for family life.
