Side Kick is a light filled and quirky 'long-legged' extension to a heritage sandstone fronted villa in Parkside. It combines contemporary brick, block work and timber to define a new open plan living space for a growing family. A projecting canopy invites you to enter the new addition, while a timber lined 'mudroom' greets entrants and marks both a separation and joining of old and new forms. Generous sliding doors open the living space to the north, extending into the garden with gentle sweeping arcs defining the alfresco and porch. A subtle 'pinch' at the roofline creates the addition's ridge, echoing the existing heritage roof profile. Windows continue above the sliding doors, extending the glazing to the ceiling, and maximising the natural sunlight from the north.

A polite 'sidestep' tucks the modest addition behind the existing villa. The extension's silhouette then splits in two, with a raked overhang framed in timber completing the profile and casting distinct shadows across the outdoor living space. Side Kick brings to life a thoughtful addition for a family in need of space; creating a renewed sense of place and connection.
